We’ve Got a Brady Bunch Situation, People

Kamille and Matt never thought they’d be planning a wedding again. Yet, here they are. Life hands us twists and turns and sometimes we find ourselves in the position of recreating our lives, nearly from scratch. Sometimes if we are lucky enough, we find love and happiness all over again. Kamille and Matt have been lucky enough to have found each other… found love a second time around. They called upon Sky of Blue Cards to custom design their wedding invitation suite.
Kamille has two children and Matt has four. You do the math. We’ve got a Brady Bunch situation here, people. Their wedding is to be a wedding for the two of them and their six children – their new blended family. They will be coming together as one big, beautiful family. All they need now is to find Alice and they are made in the shade.
When I set out to design for them, I recalled the officiant from my own wedding talked about how love between two people is like a tree. It was beautiful, he said something like this:
“When two strong trees grow close together, sometimes their bark and wood grow together at the base, creating a common support. At their roots the trees begin as two and then the growth rings of both trees are merged. But if you look to their crowns, they are still two individual trees, each nourishing itself while supporting the other.”
I loved it! It was perfect for these two lovebirds. I knew what to do. Here is what I came up with for them. The pieces are all two-color letterpress - elegant and classy – on thick and luxurious Crane Lettra paper.
The wedding is next week and we wish them all the happiness in the world.
Here’s to Kamille & Matt!

My luggage was definitely heavier on my way home from the National Stationery Show!
I picked up a ton of very cool stuff from the show of course, but we also browsed a few stationery stores (spent lots of time in Kate’s Paperie in SoHo - then off to Balthazar for champagne, of course). One trend that is huge in stationery right now are the sort of churlish messages you see in the cards. I don’t know, it’s probably just me, but after a while they get a little old and seem less playful and more cranky than anything else. It may be that I just saw too many all at once at once, in a whole lot of booths.
A very cool trend I noticed quite a bit was die-cut rounded corners. I like it. Rounded corners. It gives a stationery piece a little somethin’ somethin’… elegant yet fun. You may see us do some rounded corners here at Sky of Blue Cards. But, more on trends later… xoxox, Karla

Drew and I made the trip to New York City last week for the long-awaited (for me!) annual National Stationery Show. It was a such a blast. Hundreds of booths. Thousands of products. A plethora of design. Letterpress everywhere! It was a huge inspiration and learning experience. I feel like I now have a very clear vision of how to move forward and succeed with Sky of Blue Cards. I was happy to find that although letterpress continues to be super trendy, there is nothing else out there like us in terms of design!
I’m thrilled to report that our cards will be in two stationery stores very soon: Sassafras Stationery & Gifts in Pensacola, FL and Wordshop Denver in Denver, CO. Two very cool venues indeed! Stay tuned right here for new locations featuring our cards soon!
Speaking of Sassafras Stationery & Gifts, I have to send a big shout out to the beautiful and gracious owner of said store, Saranne Soule, for sitting down with me on several occasions while we were out there. She gave me all sorts of advice and tips and names of people to contact. She was incredibly generous with her time and information. Big, huuuuuge hugs to you Saranne!!
Also, Worshop Denver owner Jill Karber and her husband Nathan, were so nice and met with me during a very busy day at the show. They placed with me my first order to a retailer! It was very exciting.
I’m looking forward to the show next year and I hope by then I’ll have enough product to get a teeny tiny booth of my own in the section Drew and I like to call “The Newbies”. We found their work to be the most interesting and dynamic.
There was so much to see and here are some images on Flickr for you to check out. It was amazing!
